a glimpse from a gorgeous day in wichita

Friday, December 31st, 2010

nicholle here.. seems we need some way of letting you all know who is writing .. thinking about it!

well, we are loving being back in Wichita.. so many things we’d forgotten about – so many things are even better than we remembered!  We are still in corporate housing – it’s furnished, but man, I am ready to get in our new house..  i sent our Christmas Cards out the day before Christmas and didn’t even think about it when I printed our return address of the NEW house.. oops..  we will be in there later this month..

The kids are loving it, but are all ready to start school.  They miss their friends, and so do I.   We had dinner last week with our old friends Susan and Scott and lego loving boys Adam and Zach.. it’s been so nice – I didn’t really appreciate how wonderful this town was until we left.  we are having a great time rediscovering.  Last week we spent a couple of the chilly days at the science museum.. all the kids loved it.. this week the weather has been crazy warm – windy still, but really warm.. yesterday we were able to go to the zoo in long sleeves.. NO jackets!  I think it got up to 68.. it was gorgeous.  Of course today it is freezing rain, but yesterday was gorgeous and I even wanted to get the camera out..

emily trying to get a glimpse of the zebras – not wanting to walk.. not wanting to ride in the stroller.. totally has daddy wrapped around her little finger

over by the lions..

abby just was having a blast

don’t know what this is.. but i like it..

on the bridge heading to see the gorillas..

emily did not want to leave.. and she had not napped.. real tears.. still fake crying.. she’s really good..

lovely afternoon..

i’m supposed to be working – tom is taking the kids swimming.. i have a session to work on – little Mazie.. but i wanted to share a bit of things going on..

a merry little Christmas :: minus the snow…

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

minus the snow because i don’t care for it.  i know it was our first white Christmas in forty something years and i hate to be a debbie downer, but i just don’t like it.  i am not an extreme weather kind of girl.  ayden on the other hand, was in love.  even though it took us until just about 10 minutes ago to complete assembly of his new trampoline.

this was one of our busiest Christmases to date in the laing house.  visitors all the way from Arizona and Florida have filled our house with warmth, squeals, dirty dishes, and constant entertainment.  dear mr. wilson has been a trooper.  there has not been a dull moment…not that i’ve been awake for anyway.  so it has taken me a little longer than it should have to get this merry little post up.  it is totally self indulgent, but i hope my little one brings a smile to your face even half as big as the one he brings to mine.

a late very merry Christmas to everyone!

beautiful emma.. five year old emma.. Merry Christmas!

i know it is Christmas, but my family is quietly playing with all of their new toys and there is not too much I enjoy more than editing..  and this little young lady is one of my favorite little girls to photograph.. It may be because I adore her mom and family.. or because she is an absolute dream to work with.. OR it might be because I have just fallen in love with her as I’ve watched her grow up over the past couple years… she is a wonderful little girl and has a spirit that just makes you want to grab her hand and head off for a long lunch to chat and see the world from her view.. (can see how much she has changed from last year.. here)

this session was about emma.. and emma turning FIVE.. it got postponed because my own little baby was sick the week before.. Things work out for a reason, and these images turned out better than I imagined.. in some of the images, she is still a little girl – but in some – oh, my .. you can see what a neat person she will be.. she is a joy.. and so are the people who surround her.. i will miss them dearly.. (but i know i will see them again soon – emma invited me back for lunch when I’m in Bristol next.. and beth and I have winery plans)

i swear.. liz.. it was SUPER warm outside.. i would never take her out when it was chilly.. okay.. i’m totally lying, but I’m in Kansas and you can’t kill me!

i absolutely love love her smile.. AND the earring choice was superb, Emma!

yes.. a true princess… i carried her all around and she just giggled…

this is my favorite .. maybe ever of her.. it’s beautiful in color too..

back to my family for a bit..

have lots to share.. a few more sessions to share too..  but haven’t had time.. will catch up soon..

not too long ago, Elizabeth contacted us about a family session for her family and her niece and nephews.  After hearing the absolute love when she spoke of the kids, there was no way Brandy and I could say no – the weekend after Thanksgiving wast he only time they could do it.. and we are so glad they drove in for this session.    we met them on a super cold day, but ya know, these kids have so much energy – I think they stayed warm!!!!   Brian – the oldest  is the sweetest boy..  he was amazing with his brother and sister and so great in front of the camera…  his brother Sheldon – I think he has more energy than 20 boys put together.. and OH does he LOVE his uncle Mark!!!   and little Princess Hailey – yeah, she is a cutie – cracked us up with her mini faux pouting.. and then huge smiles after..  she is love..  We were lucky enough to get not only sisters Ellen and Elizabeth and husbands and kids, but also the kids Grandparents braved the cold!  We are so glad you had us capture your family – and that you made the long drive to Bristol..  the images we captured are wonderful and warm – despite the temps..

here is a peek..

nicholle wanted to make sure to get her family’s session in before their…sniff, sniff…move to Kansas.  it was suppose to be in the 50s the day we decided to do it.  the girls in their cute little skirts and cardigan, the guys in their sweaters and jeans…however, the weather did not quite cooperate.  i think it hit the mid 30s that day.  but no fear, we figured we would head out to the farm and knock it out.  the kids would be excited and work with me to get it done as fast as we could…we’d be back home and warm before we knew it.

but once we got to the farm, the wind picked up and before we knew it the tears started.  first cooper…the sun was blinding him and it was just too cold.  then it was emily’s turn…snuggled up in a blanket next to mom was the only way she would quit crying.  bless abby’s heart…she was my little trooper.  after some bribing and a quick move inside the barn everyone was raring to go again.

nic, i cried a little going through these photos.  i am going to miss you guys terribly.  though i am so excited for you, tom , and the kids, i’ve become spoiled the last several years having you guys so close…uggg, tears again!  enough mush…enjoy your little peek…
