Kara and i go way back. we went to high school and worked together many many years ago in a little coffee shop in town. pre-husbands and pre-families (well, not pre-Ayden…as i was a youngin when i had him). she was always one of the coolest girls. so funny and kind and down to earth. it’s good to reconnect with old friends. to meet their families and experience their happiness. to see them living the life that you always hoped for them. because they deserved a life nothing less than completely full of love.

Monday, December 10th, 2012these guys…so much fun
Tuesday, December 4th, 2012i can honestly say that this is the first family i’ve had to attempt to reel back in. i try my hardest at sessions to capture moments and feeling and love. and a few portraits. this family was so much fun and so full of laughter that i never had to say “ok, you guys don’t all have to look at the camera”. it was like i wasn’t there. and it was fabulous.
sometimes it’s hard being the littlest…
Clayton & Dovie
Tuesday, November 27th, 2012about a year ago i photographed a wedding at Jimmie Lynn’s amazing home. this is a house that i have driven past and wondered about since i was little. never thinking that i would one day be in it and that the owner would become my friend:)
so these two little guys, from the time we spent together are pretty much polar opposites. Dovie is so sweet and calm. she will just sit and smile at you. she is like a little baby doll. big brother Clayton is very sweet, but not calm! that child barely sat still during our session. thank goodness for the house’s bountiful light or he would have been a blur in most of the images. they are no doubt two of the cutest stinkin’ kids i’ve had the pleasure to photograph.
i finally got Jenniraye in front of the camera!
Monday, November 26th, 2012super quick post this morning. i got to photograph one of my favorite families on Thanksgiving day. i know right…what kind of friend makes you work on Thanksgiving:)? and i am so excited that the whole family joined in this time. Kailey, Violet, and Jenni and Josh! one “minor” meltdown, a few crazy dogs, and lots of lovin’.
Banks + Betsy = BFF
Friday, November 23rd, 2012over Thanksgiving week Jennifer’s dear friend Hannah was in from PA. they wanted photos together with their daughters Banks and Betsy. i was quite honored to do this session for them. being far away friends can be tough. i hope that i was able to capture images that when they look at them, it will make them feel closer.
i tell you, Banks and Betsy were not super fond of the whole photo session thing. maybe it wasn’t that they didn’t like me so much as they just had other ideas of what they wanted to do that day. miss Betsy was full blast all afternoon. i chased and chased and i think that just made her dart off faster. and beautiful little Banks…she is making a habit of giving me her serious face. i couldn’t make her laugh to save my life.
but it was so much fun to capture them as they are right now…on that day. playing and having fun. i never aim to take those “perfect” pictures. just real ones. happy ones.
JW, Katherine, and mom and dad
Monday, November 19th, 2012i was a little late this year being able to sync up with Jamie and John. i feared for a moment that we might not be able get their session done in time for the holiday rush. i am so so glad we did. last year was my first time shooting this wonderful family. but they became fast friends. some people you just click with. you’d be hard pressed to find a kinder person than Jamie and as long as it isn’t election time, John is pretty awesome too:) it is amazing how much little ones change in a year. last year miss Katherine would have nothing to do with me. this year we were buds. and JW…as sweet as ever.
a quick peek for you guys so i can get back to finishing up the gallery…Christmas card time is right around the corner!
sleepy little Hadley
Friday, November 9th, 2012at almost 4 weeks old, i told Courtney and Barclay that chances are, it would be hard to capture those snuggly sleepy images of Hadley. so quickly newborns change and become more and more aware of what is going on around them. i was pretty sure that this little guy was going to make me work hard. boy was i wrong. Courtney was feeding him when i arrived and he was out cold for the majority of the session. mom and dad told me that he was super chill most of the time. i am a believer.
Hadley is a miniature Barclay. i know that this is often not what moms want to hear. seeing how they carry and endure the birth of their babes. but there is no way around it in this case…he is a tiny Barclay. this is such a wonderful family. i am super grateful to have been able to capture these images for them. Hadley is a lucky boy.
we were able to do the entire session outside. fall in the south is a beautiful thing.
sweet new Harper
Wednesday, October 31st, 2012heading up the mountain for Harper’s newborn session i got to see my first snow of the season. it was so pretty blowing around, barely sticking to the ground off the interstate. until my drive back. it got a little hairy at that point. anyone who knows me, knows that i am a big chicken driving in any kind of inclement weather. there is a section of road between Asheville and into Tennessee. a scenic portion of 26. for some reason, i am sure there is one, whether it is the way the mountain was cut or what, but the temp always drops there. so that evening this meant snow on the road. i could say lots of snow but it really probably wasn’t lots. just enough to make this girl drive with hands at 10 and 2 and at a much slower speed than usual. but i tell you, i would make the trip all over again. getting to spend the afternoon with a sweet little newbie and her kind parents not only made my day… but also that ol’ clock of mine tick a little louder.
Harper was the ripe old age of 18 days at our session. mom Shelly planned to do her newborn photos earlier but as all us parents know, life with a new babe can be unpredictable. time can easily get away from you. none the less, i was so grateful to capture these images for Shelly and Randal. 8 days or 18…Harper is plain perfect.
